MyOpenHomes is committed to protecting your personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Who We Are

MyOpenHomes is an Australian online platform that connects home buyers and renters with open home inspection listings published by licensed real estate agents and agencies. References to "we", "us", or "MyOpenHomes" in this policy refer to the operator of this website.

2. Information We Collect

From visitors (buyers & renters):

Analytics data collected automatically via Google Analytics 4 / Firebase Analytics — including approximate city and country (derived from your IP address), device type, browser, operating system, and pages visited. Your IP address is not stored by us directly.
Schedule preferences you save (open home times) stored locally in your browser — this data never leaves your device unless you create an account.
If you sign in: your email address and display name.

From agents and agencies:

Account details: name, email address, phone number, profile photo, and agency name.
Property listing information: address, price, photos, property features, and open home times.
Payment information processed by Stripe (we do not store card numbers — see Section 5).
A public profile username if you choose to create one.

3. How We Use Your Information

To display open home listings and enable buyers to find and schedule inspections.
To operate and maintain agent and agency accounts.
To process subscription payments.
To understand how our website is used and improve the service (analytics).
To contact you about your account or listings where necessary.
To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

4. Google Analytics & Firebase Analytics

We use Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to collect anonymised usage data including approximate geographic location (city/country level), device type, and browsing behaviour on our site. This data is used solely to understand how visitors use MyOpenHomes and to improve the service.

Google Analytics uses cookies and similar tracking technologies. Data is processed by Google in accordance with their Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may process your data:

Google / Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), file storage, cloud functions, and analytics. Data is hosted in Google's infrastructure. Firebase Privacy.
Stripe — payment processing for agent subscriptions. Stripe handles all card data and is PCI-DSS compliant. We receive only a subscription status and customer ID. Stripe Privacy Policy.
Google Maps / OpenStreetMap — used to display property locations on listing pages. Subject to Google's and OpenStreetMap's respective privacy policies.
Google Fonts — fonts served by Google's CDN. Google may log your IP address when loading fonts.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

We use the following browser storage mechanisms:

Cookies — set by Firebase for authentication session management and by Google Analytics for usage tracking.
Local Storage — used to save your open home schedule (saved inspections) and UI preferences (such as light/dark mode) locally on your device. This data is not transmitted to our servers.

Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect authentication functionality.

7. Data Retention

Agent/agency accounts: retained while the account is active. Deleted upon account closure.
Listings: retained while the agent's account is active, then deleted.
Analytics data: retained for 14 months by Google Analytics (default setting).
Local storage data: stored on your device indefinitely until cleared by you or by your browser.

8. Data Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, misuse, or disclosure. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Access to Firestore is controlled by security rules that enforce role-based permissions. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe and never passes through our servers.

While we take these precautions, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Rights

Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you.
Request correction of inaccurate or out-of-date information.
Request deletion of your account and associated data.
Complain about a breach of the APPs to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you may also have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

10. Children's Privacy

MyOpenHomes is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
